Podgorica - 05.03.2011.
Marking the World Energy Efficiency Day (5 March 2011), Deputy Minister of Economy, Dragica Sekulic, stated that Montenegro could save 4.5 million Euros annually, if 200.000 households used a saving bulb that works eight hours a day.
“We estimate that, according to current prices of electricity, 23 Euros is the annual savings per household, using one saving bulb that works eight hours a day” stated Sekulic, in front of the Ministry of Economy where more than 600 saving bulbs were handed out to citizens with advice on how they can contribute to electricity savings.
Sekulic said that according to the Energy Community Treaty, Montenegro has to meet the obligation of achieving the indicative target of energy efficiency, meaning 9% saving of the average final energy consumption in the country.
“Citizens are, probably, not aware of what energy efficiency means and in what way they can achieve savings, but such activities and projects tend to show in, a symbolic way, that citizens can achieve significant savings”, Sekulic explained.
Sekulic explained that If 200,000 households in Montenegro replace only one bulb of 100 W with a saving bulb of 20 W, used daily for 8 hours, 4.5 million Euros per year can be saved, 400,000 € per month or € 12,800 per day. Annual savings per household will be 23.36 Euros.
Sekulić said that according to this calculation, it is worthwhile to buy a saving bulb after just two months just through the achieved savings, because positive effects can be seen in electricity bills.
