From 15 to 17 October 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency, in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy as a co-organizer, hosted the delegation of the Republic of Armenia under the project “Additional Activities for Maintaining Energy Efficiency in the Refrigeration Servicing Sector in Armenia”. This project is aimed at promoting energy-efficient technologies with a low GWP (Global Warming Potential) and strengthening capacities in addressing administrative and regulatory challenges in this area. The meetings under the framework of this visit were organized at the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Region Development.
During the first two days of the study visit, representatives of relevant institutions of Armenia had the opportunity to get acquainted with Montenegro’s experience in the implementation of regulations related to climate change and the protection of the ozone layer, as well as regulations and support programs in the field of energy efficiency.
Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, Agency for Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Region Development, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Ministry of Energy, the Market Inspection, the Eco Fund, and the Chamber of Engineers of Montenegro – Professional Chamber of Mechanical Engineers informed the delegation from Armenia about the aspects of relevant policies, implemented activities and achieved results, in order to provide information on the activities that institutions in Armenia can undertake in order to improve the implementation of their policies in the field of climate change, ozone layer protection and energy efficiency.
In the field of energy efficiency, special emphasis was placed on the implementation of the legislative framework in the field of energy efficiency of energy related products, i.e. the implementation of regulations governing eco-design requirements and energy efficiency labeling of products (household appliances, industrial equipment, etc.). Representatives of the Ministry of Energy and the Market Inspection provided their colleagues from Armenia a detailed insight into the current legal framework in Montenegro, which is based on the relevant EU legislation, and they have also presented relevant experience in the field of product surveillance on the market.
In addition, having in mind the high level of responsibility of Montenegrin companies, which has been shown when it comes to the implementation of regulations in the field of energy efficiency, the third day of the visit was dedicated to the practical part in which the delegation from Armenia with representatives of Montenegrin institutions visited the companies “Tehnomax” and “Home systems”, where the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the application of energy labeling.
By exchanging knowledge, experience and suggestions during the implemented activities, within the three-day visit of the delegation of the Republic of Armenia, the cooperation between our two countries and between the competent institutions has been further strengthened in the field of energy efficiency and climate change, with a special focus on the sustainable use of technologies in the refrigeration systems sector.
